Newport Captain, Mike Clayden Powers Wales Minor Counties To Victory

Newport CC captain Michael Clayden, scored a superb 117 in 104 balls, for Wales Minor Counties
as they romped to a 72 run victory against Wiltshire,
in their first Unicorns KO Trophy (Group 1) Match, at Newport Cricket Club on the weekend.
Wales MC elected to bat on winning the toss on a superb batting wicket and scored 352 all out
off their allotted 50 overs. Clayden (15 fours), was the main contributor,
but he was also aided by Gareth Ansell who scored a good 82.
The two put on a match winning partnership of 121 for the 2nd wicket.
Although, always in the game, the Wiltshire reply fell away towards the end of their innings
and were eventually all out for 280 in 44 overs, to give Wales a winning start to their one day campaign.

Triple Centurians

Still, only in the middle of April,
Clayden was the third Newport Centurian of the season so far.
On Saturday, against a Wales U17 Team, Matt Jones scored an impressive 105 which included 16 fours,
as the club notched up another pre-season win by 29 runs.

While the previous week Tom Josham scored a magnificent 135no,
to guide Newport to a thrilling 3 wicket win against Blackwood.
Josham's innings included 5 sixes and17 fours.
