End of Season Presentation Evening ..... A Great Success

Newport CC's End of Season Presentation of Awards Evening proved a great success with
an exceptionally good turn out.
The evening closed the 2015 season,
which proved once again to be a great success story for the club.
The highlight of the evening being a 'This Is Your Life' Presentation by the Club Chairman Paul Morris,
to Club stalwart Rob Brown who this year celebrated 50 years of playing for Newport CC.
A fantastic Achievement .... probably never to be repeated .... certainly not by Rob!!
1st X1 - A season when the Club's young team finally found their feet. Imran Hassan scored 618 runs (Average 61.8) and Michael Clayden scored 529 runs (Average 66.13) as they finished as the top two in the SWPL Averages. Add to that 557 runs (Average 37.13) from Matt Norris and Newport had 3 of the top 10 Run scorers in the League. Fine contributions from Bermudan all rounder Kam Leverock, 272 runs and 29 wkts at 18.28 (5th in the League Bowling Averages) along with 23 wickets at an average of 28.7 from Harry Powell saw the team punch above it's weight, to finish the campaign in 3rd position. The Highest position the Club has finished since the league was formed.
2nd X1 - Another regrouping season after two successive Title Winning seasons in 2012 &13. With several of the team's young players progressing into the 1st X1 during the 2015 season, a season of consolidation was required. Ably led by captain Joe Thompson, it was a difficult season, but one that saw the introduction of a number of the club's top junior players stake their claim for the future. A good omen for the future.
3rd X1 - The Club's 3rd team was captained by the evergreen Rob Brown. The team of youngsters and experienced stalwarts, finished in the top half of the Welsh Club Cricket Conference Division 2, completing a highly successful season. Highlights were Guy Muspratt with 147 against Tredegar and regular contributions with bat and ball from Prav De Silva.
4th X1 - Haydn's Army became Alex's Infantry as they had to come to terms with mid table stability after three successive promotions. In all it was a fine performance from the team and many individuals, notably Graham Hughes, who scored over 400 League runs.
Junior Teams - The Club's Junior Teams reached all three Cup finals, withe the U15's having already won their competion
and the U11's and U13's due to play their finals shortly. At present the Honours Board looks like:-

Players of the Year 2015
1st X1 - Imran Hassan
Imran Hassan won the 1st X1 Player of the Year Award, scoring 618 League Runs at an average of 61.8. The highlight
of his season being a purple patch during the season whereby he scored three centuries, (111 v Port Talbot),
(105no v Mumbles), (105 v Neath) and (97 v Ynysygerwyn).
He scored 3 League centuries and 2 League fifties, and finished 2nd in the SWPL Batting Averages. being 6th top
run scorer.
Despite limited bowling appearances he also took 8 League wickets at an average of 29.63 per wicket.

2nd X1 - Sam Hope-Bell
The 2nd X1 Player of the Year Award was won by Sam Hope-Bell. One of the Club's young U15 players and definitely,
one for the future, Sam, in his first season in the 2nd X1, scored two centuries (109no v Tondu) and (101 v Bridgend)
in scoring a total of 336 League Runs in just 8 completed innings, at an average of 42. As an off spinner, Sam claimed
10 League wickets and made his debut in the 1st Team during the course of the season.

3rd X1 - Pravin De Silva
The 3rd X1 Player of the Year Award was won by Pravin De Silva. An ever present in the 3rd X1 this season, batting
and bowling with distinction throughout the season. His top score was 113 v Tredegar. He was a great ally for
captain Rob throughout the season.

4th X1 - Graham Hughes
The 4th X1 Player of the Year Award was won by Graham Hughes. Graham has been a consistent run scorer for the
4th team for several seasons, this year being no exception. He scored 410 League runs at an average of 41, he
scored 4 League fifties with a top score of 71.

Young Player of the Year - Ffion Wynne
Ffion Wynne won the Young Player of the Year Award. Ffion, who has just completed her first year
at Loughborough University has trained and played regularly with several of the current England
Womens Ashes Squad, herself being selected in the strong Loughborough MCCU Women's Team.
Her performances obviously impressed, claiming 5 wkts against Leeds & Bradford University,
including a hat trick. A fine season was recognised with her receiving the Loughborough Women's
Bowler of the Year Award.
She was recently selected for the England U19 Training Camp at Wellington School.

Clubman of the Year -Tom Carter
Tom Carter won the Club's Clubman of the Year, being hailed as 'an inspiration for everyone'. Tom who
suffered a leg amputation 2 years ago made his comeback as 'a player' this season. It had been Tom's
ambition ever since his illness, to play cricket again and with great courage and determination he achieved
his goal in 2015 playing throughout the season.... a fantastic achievement!
Tom has helped run one of the Club's Junior sides this year, and has helped run the Club bar throughout
the season. Tom is always around and about the club and hopes to play for the England Disability Team
in the near future. A weel deservered recipient of the award of Clubman of the Year. Well done Tom and
Good Luck in the Future, from everyone at Newport Cricket Club.

Scorers Award - Sam Hope-Bell
Not only did Sam win the 2nd X1 Player of the Year award, but also scooped the Scorer's Award for his
stunning century (101) against Bridgend, in a 2nd X1 league fixture. Played in atrocious conditions on
a difficult wicket, he made conditions look easy as he oozed class in making his second century of
the season.

And Finally ...... This Is Your Life! - Robert Brown.
Newport Cricket Club stalwart Robert Brown, officially retired from playing after 50 years service
for the THE CLUB. In this, his final playing season he was elected captain of the Club's 3rd team,
nuturing many of the Club's talented young players into their first years in senior cricket. He led
the team with distinction this year and ends a tremendous career in the game.
He has been a magnificent servant of Newport Cricket Club over many years. He joined the club
as a youngster and played in many of the Clubs top teams ranging for over half a century. He's
always taken a keen interest in the Club's young players and it is fitting that in his final season,
he has done so much to help the youngsters in the club progress.
In a fitting tribute to Rob, Club Chairman Paul Morris, entertained the guests with a witty rendition of
This is Your Life, recalling many past memories of Rob's time with the Club.
