Imran Hassan Leads The Way With Fine Century
April 2016
Newport's Imran Hassan continued his impressive early season form with a fine century, against Ammanford in the South Wales Premier League at Spytty Park. His 111 followed an impressive 78 for Wales Minor Counties against MCC at Lords in midweek and selection for Glamorgan 2nd's against Surrey at Guildford this coming week.
After losing an early wicket (12-1), Imran soon took control scoring an excellent 111, putting on 155 for the 2nd wicket with debutant Gareth Ansell, who himself scored a valuable 56. Imran was finally out with the Newport score on 240-6. Newport eventually finished on 261-8 off their alloted 50 overs.
Ammanford were quickly in trouble losing two early wickets, including the prize wicket of Alun Evans (at 9-2,). Only a useful 68 from Matthew Fisher rescued them from an even bigger defeat as they were bowled all out for 144. All the Newport bowlers picked up wickets, Harry Powell1-14, Michael Clayden 2-21, Dean Cosker 1-29, Joe Voke 2-20, Callum Taylor 1-22 and Scott Thornton claiming 3-28.
However, it was Imran's innings which stole the show. A great start to the season - Good Luck against Surrey, this week
