Newport Cricket Club – New Artificial Wicket

Our artificial wicket on the reserve ground is 15 years old and is in a poor state of repair and  we have to try to replace it ready for the 2017 season. As you know, we run 10 Junior teams (7 Boys and 3 Girls) with the majority of our Junior Cricket being played on the two artificial wickets – without the Artificial Wickets the Junior Section wouldn’t be able to run effectively.

 Good News

 We plan to hold various fund raising initiatives to raise the £10,000 needed to replace the wicket, but the good news is that our Project to replace the Artificial Wicket has been shortlisted for a TESCO ‘Bags of Help’ Grant. Our project along with two other successful projects will be voted on in Tesco stores, where customers will decide the outcome by voting for their favourite project each time they shop. Voting will take place from 2nd January to 28th January. The project with the highest number of votes across our region will receive £5,000, the second placed project £2,000 and the third placed project £1,000.

How Can You Help?

i.  Tokens are issued every time you shop, so by splitting your shop you could gain more tokens.

ii. Please tell friends and relatives about the scheme and ask them to place their token in the Newport Cricket Club Project box.

iii. Please tell people in your workplace – we need as much help as possible.

We must have lots of players, parents, friends who shop at Tesco, so all we need to do is to co-ordinate our membership and friends and get everyone to shop, as many times as possible. If we all work hard to maximise the Newport Cricket Club Vote, we could gain a considerable start to our Artificial Wicket Project Appeal.
