Young Newport, Australian scored a superb unbeaten 108no to see Newport home to a fine 5 wicket win at home to Cardiff on Saturday, in the South Wales Premier League.

Cardiff batted first on winning the toss and a fine all round bowling and fielding performance restricted Cardiff to 225-5 off their 50 overs. Zalmai Ahmadzai with 2-39, and Mike Clayden 2-35 were the chief wicket takers, but were well supported by Dean Cosker 0-23 off 10 overs and Dave O'Sullivan 0-34 off 10 overs. Milton 60, Grant 66and Connor Brown 51 all scored half centuries for Cardiff.

Newport lost 2 early wickets in reply slipping to 35-2, but this setback brought together Imran Hassan and Callum Taylor who shared a 3rd wicket stand of 115 before Hassan was run out for 48 with the score on 150-3. Taylor was not phased and remained in total control absorbing the pressure and pouncing on every loose ball bowled. His innings was one of high class, finishing unbeaten on 105 (12 fours), as he led Newport to a very important victory. Newport finishing on 226-5 off 49 overs. Taylor is in fine form at the moment, with this being Taylor's 2nd unbeaten SWPL century in 3 weeks, having previously scored a match winning 119no against Port Talbot, followed by an unbeatren 45 against Penarth. In all three matches he has been not out guiding Newport to 3 priceless wins in the process.

Newport secured 19 points and Cardiff 7pts. The gap at the top of the table now seeing Newport just 6 points behind their capital city rivals as the teams approach the half way stage.

2nd X1

It was a similar story in the 2nd X1. Cardiff scoring 207-5 and Newport scoring 210-4 to win by 6 wickets. Phil Maclean 68 and Darnell Taylor Wood 47no seeing Newport home with an unbroken 5th wicket partnership of 95.

3rd X1

The 3rd X1 made it a winning treble over Cardiff with youngsters Nathan Berry 80 and Dave Cook 86no putting on 146 for the 3rd wicket in seein Newport to a useful looking total of 251-3 off 45 overs. Cardiff made 211 all out in reply leaving Newport 3rds winners by 40 runs.
