Congratulations to young Callum Taylor who has earned a 1 year professional contract
with Glamorgan for the 2019 season.

Callum who emigrated to Australia when younger, has returned to Newport for the last 3 years to 
play Premier League cricket with Newport. Many impressive performances have taken the eye 
of Glamorgan. The 20-year-old has penned a one-year deal with the Welsh county after featuring 
regularly for the seconds last year. Taylor, a middle-order batsman and off-spinner, hit three 
half-centuries and was rewarded with a call-up to Glamorgan's T20 Blast squad against Essex.

Last summer he helped Newport repeat their 2016 South Wales Premier League and he was named as club player of the year for the second season on the bounce, adding to his young player of the year honour from the previous campaign.

Glamorgan director of cricket Mark Wallace, who has played alongside Taylor at Spytty Park, says the prospect has earned his chance. "Callum has been one of the more outstanding players in the South Wales Premier League over the last few years, he's excelled in the Minor Counties, and taken his chance in the second XI," said the former Glamorgan captain and wicket-keeper. "Hopefully the route he has taken to a full contract through performing in the league and climbing the ladder will inspire others to set about following a similar route."

Taylor who excels with bat, ball (off spin) and fielding, scored 527 League runs for Newport in 9 completed innings last season, including a best score of 101 against Ammanford, at an average of 58.56. While with the ball he has taken 30 league wickets with best figures of 5 - 20 against Ynysygerwn, at an average of 11.23 per wicket. He scored a very impressive 122 for Glamorgan 2nds, along with other fine performances throughout the season with both bat and ball.

Newport Cricket Club chairman Mike Knight enthused, 'Everyone at Newport is delighted for Callum, in 3 years playing for the club he has shown tremendous ability and hopefully, there will be a 1st Class debut in the near future and the start of a long and successful career with Glamorgan'.

Taylor has recently returned to Newport to prepare for the 2019 season with Glamorgan having spent another winter in Australia where he played 1st Grade cricket for South Brisbane. The good news for Newport is that Glamorgan have allocated him to the club for the 2019 season.
