An excellent gathering witnessed the Clubs' 2019 Player of the Year Presentation Evening to end the season for the Club.

1st X1 - The 2019 season proved to be not as successful as the title winning 2018 campaign with player unavailability a disappointment. However with several highly promising young players having the opportunity during the season, the future looks bright!

2nd X1 - A young 2nd X1 / Development X1 as expected, found the early part of the season difficult, but as the season wore on lessons were learnt and confidence grew, to finsh the SWPL (Res. Div.) league programme with a very credible 2nd half to the season.

3rd X1 - Again lack of continuity due to lack of player availability resulted in a disappointing campaign in the SEWCL Division 3. After a promising start to the season winning their first three matches, results and performances slipped and the team finished 8th in the leagus. Depending on league restructuring the club wait to see if they have held their league position for 2020.

4th X1 - A highly successful season for the 4th X1 who finished in 3rd place in the SEWCL Div. 10 and promotion. Captain Kevin Bailey must take great credit for all his hard work in fielding a team throughout the season, with special thanks to Haroon.

Junior Teams - The Club's Junior Teams completed another fine season:-

With the decision that there were to be no leagues for Junior cricket, it was Cup cricket that took 
centre stage:-

U11 - MBS Cup Winners beating Chepstow in the Final

U13 - MBS Cup Winners beating Llanarth in the Final

U15 - MBS Cup Winners beating Sudbrook in the Final

The U13 play in the Welsh Cup Final on Sunday

1st X1

Player of the Year - Michael Clayden

Michael Clayden won the Newport CC Player of the Year Award completing a fantastic season. He
scored 691 league runs at an average of 53.5, with two league centuries, both against Clydach, 122 at Home
and 102 Away. He also scored 4 league fifties and also claimed 8 victims with his economical medium paced bowling.
He was 2nd highest run scorer and 2nd in the SWPL League Averages.
He also scored another century (107*) against Whitchurch Heath and two further fifties in Welsh Cup matches. 
In all he scored an amazing 975 runs during the season at an average of 57.35. Congratulations!

1st X1 Merit Award - Mark Wallce

After 14 years of playing 230 consecutive matches in his professional career with Glamorgan, and this 

year taking on the Director of Cricket role at Glamorgan, it would be easy to have had a week off now and again, 

but that's not Mark. In his 3rd year with the club he completed 50 consecutive league appearances during the 

2019 campaign. 
Maybe some of the other club members should look at the example he sets!

2nd X1 Player of the Year - Lewis Probert

The 2nd X1 Player of the Year Award was won by Lewis Probert. Youngster Lewis claimed 16 league wickets in his first
full season for the 2nds at an average of 22.69, with best figures of 4-31 against Malpas. Lewis also made his Wales 
Minor Counties debut during 2019.

2nd X1 Merit Award - Hugo Caldicott

U15 player Hugo joined the club for the 2019 season and found balancing his school activities and club cricket difficult at first.
However, as the season progressed he showed his undoubted talent with a match winning 90no against Newbridge 
being the catalyst for a fine end to the season, which resulted in a 1st team call up for the trip to Ammanford.
Keep up the good work Hugo.... A lot more still to come in 2020!

3rd X1 Player of the Year - Mo Aqdas Rizvi
The 3rd X1 Player of the Year Trophy was renamed as the 'Tom Carter Memorial Award' after the tragic death 
of Clubman Tom Carter recently.

The 3rd X1 Player of the Year 'Tom Carter Memorial Award' was won by another young player, All Rounder 
Mohammad Aqdas Rizvi, he batted and bowled with distinction throughout the season.
Mo scored 307 runs at an average of 43.86, whilst taking 18 wickets at an average of 18.11.

His highest score was 86 against Tondu and his best bowling figures were 4-21 against Dinas Powys.

Young Player of the Year - Jack Wright

The Bill Jones Memorial Award for the Young Player of the Year’ is an important award for a club 

which has such a rich heritage of producing outstanding young players. 
The Award was presented to Jack Wright, a young player who has become a reliable member of the 
Newport 1st X1 bowling attack, bowling some really good spells and being instrumental in several of 
Newport's wins throughout the season. Jack claimed 21 league wickets at an average of 20.76. 
His best figures were 4 - 46 against ammanford at Home.
He claimed 18.26% of Newport's league wickets and was in the top 20 highest wicket takers in the league.
It’s great to see a quick bowler emerging and hopefully, big things are to come in the future.

Nicole showed great commitment throughout the season, scoring many runs and claiming

Scorers Award - Mervyn Vincent
With the 2nd X1 without a captain midway through the season, Merv stepped up and ran the team with
great distinction and enthusiasm. He led and guided a very young 2nd X1 to some very credible wins, 
helping to bring the best out of the young players in the team. He galvanised the group and led them 
to a very satisfying second half of the season.

Clubman of the Year Award - Phil Maclean

Although not captain, Phil took on the onerous task of selecting the 2nd and 3rd teams this year.
With non availability a common issue throughout the club, Phil spent countless hours organising the teams
so that the best teams were fielded each week.... A thankless task! But one he did so well!
Phil was a true clubman always helping at the club on wet Saturday mornings and was an ever present at 
the 4 Day Glamorgan County Championship match.

He’s a very popular guy and a great Clubman.

Merit Award - Ray Larcombe

Another year ..... Another fantastic shift! whether repairing, tidying, umpiring or a host of other odd jobs, Ray works 
tirelessly for the Club. He is responsible for lots of the improvements made at the Club in recent years
 – there’s nothing that he can’t do and again throughout the year he’s done countless jobs inside and around
the ground.

President's 'Special Award' - Ann Read

Ann has been a breath of fresh air since joining the club. She has put in a tremendous amount of hard work for 

the club throughout the season doing B-B-Q's and raffles and working in the kitchen.

She was instrumental in making the Glamorgan County Championship so successful with her work hosting 

the Glamorgan players throughout the week.

Club Legend - Paul Morris

2019 coincided with the 25th anniversary of Paul Morris being steward of the club. Paul has worked 

tirelessly for the club during the good and bad times and has been instrumental in the club's success.
Legends don't come round very often but Paul is definitely one!

Paul will be added to the list of 'Club Legends' displayed in the Museum.
Well done Paul and hopefully there are many more years to come.
