Newport's 3rd X1 clinched the SEWCL Div. 4 Title with a thrilling win against Hopkinstown at 
Hopkinstown.

Set a mamouth 302 runs to not only win the match but to win the league Div.4 championship, 
it was always going to be a tough run chase. Captain Joe Thompson 20, Rahil Khan Idris 33 and 
Phil Maclean 34 all got started but none could make the big score that was required. However, 
all was not lost as 4th wicket pair, Sujeewa Senarathne and Josh Aston came together and 
plundered the Hopkinstown attack to all parts of the ground. In a partnership of well over a hundred, 
Aston hit 6 sixes and 6 fours in a magnificent 90, while not to be outdone Sejeewa hit 9 fours 

and 3 sixes in an unbeaten 84. Newport lost 2 further wickets in the final run chase, but the 
damage had already been done, Newport finally winning in 38.3 overs.

Newport pipped Cardiff 3rds by 7pts to clinch the SEWCL Div.4 Title.
Conratulations to the team, but massive applause to Captain Joe Thompson and his right hand man 
Phil Maclean for all their hard work on and off the field.
