Young Newport Cricket Club star Sophia Smale has been selected to play for Oval Invincibles in the Womens' Hundred competition, which begins in August.

Sophia has been a member of Newport Cricket Club since she was 7 years old. The Grand daughter of 
legendary Cricket Coach Malcolm Price, she has been a top performer with bat and ball in all the boys 
teams, not to mention the Girls' teams as she has progressed up the Junior ladder.

She is a very accurate bowler, bowling left arm spin and has played for both the Western Storm 
Academy and Senior teams this year. She has represented the various Welsh Junior Teams with 
great success throughout her career.

A delighted Newport Cricket Club chairman, Mike Knight said, 'Sophia has been a role model for 
the other girls in the club to follow. She has made giant strides in a short period of time, she has 
a fantastic attitude towards working hard and thoroughly deservers her success. The real hard 
work is about to start and everyone at Newport Cricket Club will be willing her on.
