Newport Cricket Club once again took the honours in the Gwent Shield Junior Finals Day at 
Abergavenny. Newport's U11, U13 and U15 teams won their way throught to the Finals Day, 
where they played Chepstow, Abergavenny and Abergavenny respectively.

U11 Final

The U11 game unfortunately had to be cancelled due to overnight rain, but was replayed the 
following Sunday at Newport.

Newport won the toss and elected to bat, a good decision as the Newport openers Freddie 
Davies (26) and Ioan Wallace (19), put on 62 for the first wicket. Good running between 
the wickets being a real strong point However, Chepstow hit back claiming 4 wickets quickly, 
before Charlie Watkins 11 and Dafydd Collins 23 steadied the ship, and the Newport innings 
closed on 115 - 6 (20 overs)  Edward Hardacre 2-12 was the pick of the Chepstow bowlers.

Chepstow openers began well, Raahi Kumar (18) and Jak Ward putting on 33 for the first wicket. 
However, Finley Martin 4 overs 3wkts for 3 runs ripped the heart out of the Chepstow reply with 
only Finley Hillman (10) and Max Hunt (13), brilliantly run out by Henry Thomas, offering any real 
support. With Freddie Davies bowling 4 overs 1 wkt for just 5 runs, the Chepstow innings was in 
tatters as they slipped to 69-7. Aahil Tariq and Ioan Wallace claimed furthe wickets as the Chepstow 
innings ended on 84-8, leaving Newport winners by 31 runs. The Man of the Match Award 
went to Freddie Davies for his all round display.

U13 Final

In the U13 Final Abergavenny scored 134 7 off 20 overs and Newport were just short on 102-8 
off their 20 overs.

U15 Final

In the U15 Final Abergavenny put Newort into bat, and Vinny Ambrosi quickly made his mark 
scoring a rapid 30 out of 34 in just 6 overs. 
The run rate however soon dropped once he had fallen to the bowling of Eve Jackson (2 - 15 
off 4 overs), who claimed both openers in her first 2 overs. Teg Mahoney (13) and Teddy Smith-Milne 34) 
came together and began to take Newport into a healthy looking score. 
A partnership of 47 was broken as the Newport score was on 84 - 4 in 13 overs. Sam Johnstone (14) and 
Mariam Shahabdeen (12no) continued to score useful runs and the Newport innings eventually closed on 
124-6 (20 overs).

A good contest was in prospect and with Abergavenny on 59-3 off 12 overs a good game was developing. 
However, the rain which had blighted the day, returned and the game had to be abandoned. With no DLS 
or Run Rate Score in place it was decided that the game would conclude with a bowl out. Five bowlers from 
each side to determine the winner.

Newport missed with their first 2 balls and Abergavenny edged in front with 1 strike after 2 balls each. 
Newport's third bowler, George Chorley hit and Abergavenny missed to bring the score to 1 - 1. The game 
changed when the fourth bowler for Newport, Sam Johnstone hit and Abergavenny missed. It was left to 
Newport's Vinny Ambrosi to seal the win with another direct hit as Newport clinched it 3 - 1, to win the game.

Vinny Ambrosi duly won the Man of the Match Award.
