Junior Girls Cricket Boost
July 2023
Newport Cricket Club received £1,500 grant from the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust
to help to support the Club’s Girls Cricket section. The Club has a well established Girls section,
but the grant award will go towards creating a new U11 Girls section.
Club Chairman Mike Knight said, The MSCT grant has allowed the Club to create a new U11 Girls
Cricket section and the programme has provided a great opportunity for young girls in Newport to
access the game of Cricket.
Girls only ‘Taster’ Days, to provide new players with an introduction to the game were held in
March/April. The ‘Taster Days’ were followed by a 12 week Summer coaching programme which
has seen an influx of Junior School Girls to the Club. Weekly coaching sessions have been held
throughout the summer, with support from some of the Club’s older girls who worked as support
coaches with the younger girls.
The U13 Girls who helped coach the new U11 players
Following the 12 week Summer Coaching Programme a new Girls U11 team
has been formed.
