Newport Begin Plans for 2025

Newport Cricket Club began preparations for the 2025 campaign with the appointment of Captains at the Cub's recent AGM.
Elected Captains are as follows:-
1st X1 - Harry Friend
Sunday/Midweek - Muji Ilyas
2nd X1 - Mike Provis
3rd X1 - Mike Murtagh
4th X1 - Haroon Ashraf

Club Chairman Mike Knight, in thanking all outgoing captains commented, 'Last year's Captains led with distinction, and worked tirelessly for the benefit of the club.
All the 2024 Captains have done a great job for several years, but it is time to move forward and with the appointment of new captains it is the opportunity to make
further progress at the club. It promises to be an exciting time, on and off the field, we have good people in charge to make sure that we can build on previous successes.
We look forward to the 2025 season with great anticipation.'

1st X1 Captain for 2025
Harry will be grateful for the support of Muji Ilyas who has agreed to Captain the Sunday and midweek teams.
The pair will head a strong leadership team, including Michael Clayden and Imran Hassan.

 








The Club will offer cricket for all playing abilities, playing on fantastic facilities:-

1st X1 will again play in the South Wales Premier League (Premier Division).
2nd X1 will again play in the South East Wales League Division1.
3rd X1 will again play in the South East Wales League Division 5.

4th X1 Following last year's promotion, will play in the South East Wales League Division 9.

Club Pays Thanks To Retiring Club Legends

At the recent AGM of Newport Cricket Club, Chairman Mike Knight Presented long serving Club Steward, Paul Morris
with a Commemorative Trophy celebrating 30 years service and retirement.

Fred Wangler


Also Special mention was made to another Club Legend Fred Wangler 93 years of age, who ended
his unbroken 48 year spell as Club Treasurer.
Fred began his association with the Club in 1948 and has been an ever present at the club ever since,
until his recent move to Nottingham.
