Jess Thornton Selected To Train With England
October 2013
Newport Cricket Club’s highly talented Jess Thornton has been selected for the England Women’s
Development U15 Programme. A Winter Training Squad of 22 players has been selected and it is
hoped that they will progress through the England Women's Cricket Pathway.
Jess who is a highly regarded batsman and legspin bowler, was the captain of the highly successful
Newport Girls U13 team that won the Lady Taverners U13 UK Cup in 2013. Her selection in the
England Women’s Development U15 Programme aims to develop the skills, characteristics and
behaviours associated with World's Best Women cricketers, to ensure England Women continue
to win major tournaments. The England U15 Programme will be led by Salliann Briggs (Head Coach),
and is based at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough. The programme will be
delivered by high quality coaches and sport science specialists, with players receiving individual
training programmes aimed at developing their game.
Jess will attend an initial Induction/Screening Camp in October, to be followed by four three
day Training Camps at Loughborough in November, January, February and March.
Everyone at the Club wishes Jess the best of luck!
