Massive Boost For Changing Room Project

April 2015

It's been a long time, nearly 2 years, since the upgrading of the Junior Changing Room
Block was first discussed, but plans have now been finalised and renovation work will
begin soon.

Regular meetings involving several major organisations over the course of a 2 year period have
presented many stumbling blocks to overcome and progress has been painfully slow at times.
However we have always been positive about the merit of the Project and recently we heard the
news that we had all been waiting for.

A substantial Grant to renovate the Junior Changing Rooms has been made available, with partners
Newport City Council, ENTRUST and Cricket Wales all providing great support. The major stumbling
block was the securing of a 25 year lease on the cricket ground, which would include the taking
on of the Squash Court Building - a major undertaking for the Cricket Club.

At a meeting in early February the necessary i's were dotted and t's crossed to allow the project
to progress. Work has now begun! A completion date will hopefully coincide with
the beginning of the 2015 season.

The Project will include the following:-
  • *  Signing of a new 25 Year Lease on the whole of the Cricket Ground, including the Squash Building.
  • *  Renew the existing Changing Room Block Roof
  • *  Upgrading / Renovating 6 Changing Rooms including the Umpires Room
  • *  Replacing the Existing Boiler / Hot Water System
With the lease now in place, the whole site can also be fenced off adding extra security and there are
aspirations of developing a small cricket museum in the Squash Building area.
