but also becoming the National Womens' Premier League Champions.

Lady Taverner's National Champions
Newport U13 Girls crowned an amazing season for the Women & Girls' Section of the Cub
by winning the U13 Lady Taverners National Championship.
Having won the Trophy in Oxford, a week later the girls were invited to Lords to receive the trophy, immediately prior to the CB40 Final between Glamorgan CCC and Notts.
Mike Gatting, presented the girls with the trophy,
before setting off on a 'Lap of Honour' to a standing ovation around the famous ground.

Lady Taverner's National Runner Up
To cap a remarkable 2013 season for the Women & Girls' Section,
the Newport U15 Girls team became Lady Taverners National Runners Up.
Having beaten the much fancied Ansty Girls (Sussex) in the Semi Final,
they slipped to defeat against Walmley in the National Final at Leamington Spa.

Lady Taverner's Welsh Champions & UK National Runner Up
Newport U13 Girls Cricket Club underlined their growing potential with a magnificent achievement in becoming
the UK U13 Lady Taverners National Runners Up, at Ellesmere College in Shropshire.
The girls produced memorable performances, before just failing in the Final against North London, by 21 runs.
Earlier in the season, the Newport girls, won the U13 Lady Taverner's Welsh Cup.

Newport U11 Girls
Lady Taverner's Welsh Champions & Midland Regional Runner Up
Newport U11 completed an outstanding 2012 season, winning the Lady Taverner's Welsh Cup and becoming UK Midland Regional
Runner's Up. Having won the Welsh Cup, the young Newport girls qualified for the ECB stages of the competition at Weoley Hill Cricket Club
at Birmingham in the Midlands, competing against 5 other County Champions.
Having lost their first game to Walmley (Warwickshire), four wins agianst Narborough & Littlethorpe (Leicestershire),
Meir Heath (Staffordshire), Chesterfield (Derbyshire) and St George (Worcestershire), meant Newport had tied on 13 points with eventual
winners Walmley, who won the competition on run rate.

Lady Taverner's Welsh Champions & South West Regional 3rd Place
Newport U13 Girls emulated their U11 counterparts by winning the Lady Taverner's Welsh Cup and hence qualifying for the ECB Regional South & West of England Finals at Exeter.
Their progress through to the UK South West Regional Championships at Exeter saw a similar competition to the U11 Championships. Newport losing their first match against Banbury (Oxfordshire), but winning all their other matches against Bristol (Gloucestershire), Finchampstead (Berkshire), Bovey Tracey (Devon) and Taunton (Somerset). again the Competition end in a tie, but with 3 teams all losing 1 match and ending level on points. The Competition was decided on run rate with Banbury winning, Finchampstead, second and Newport 3rd.

U11 Lady Taverner's Welsh Cup Wins
Newport Cricket Club Under 11 Girls Team capped a memorable season by winning the Lady Taverners, Welsh Cup Competition at the Welsh Finals Day, at Radyr Cricket Club. Having previously won the the Gwent region, the girls were up against tough opposition from the champion clubs of the other counties of Wales. Newport faced four games in the round robin event.
In their first game the girls were drawn to play Whitland, the Pembrokeshire County Champions, winning by 49 runs. In their second game Newport played Lisvane with Newport winners by 26 runs. Newport's third game was effectively the Final, as Cardiff had won all their previous games, but the young Newport girls kept their nerve eventually winning by 5 runs in a close encounter. The win set up Newport for their final match knowing that a win against Neath would be enough to win the tournament. The Newport girls kept their best bowling display of the day until last, winning by 38 runs. Newport's 100% record resulting in them becoming the inaugural U11 Lady Taverners Welsh Champions.

U11 Lady Taverner's Welsh Cup Winners
Newport U11 Girls Cricket Club became the 2012 Lady Taverner's Welsh Cup Winners in fine style, at the Welsh Finals Day at
Cardiff Cricket Club. Newport retaining the trophy they won last year. Four teams from all over Wales had progressed to the
Final's Day with Newport CC, Cardiff CC, Lisvane CC and Narbeth CC all fighting for the title. The tournament was organised as
a round robin competition.
In Newport's first game they played Lisvane, Newport winning the match by 22 runs. Next game for Newport was against
Pembroke side Narbeth. It was not until the final pair of Jess Thornton and Catrin Phillips got together, that Newport
actually got in front of the low Narbeth score. Newport squeezing home by a narrow 4 run margin, The final game saw
the Newport girls play Cardiff, both teams unbeaten to date, so it was effectively the final, Newport winning by 22 runs.
An excellent day's cricket ended with the young Newport girls' being crowned Lady Taverner's Welsh Champions, retaining
the trophy they had won in 2011.

U13 Lady Taverner's Welsh Cup Wins
The Newport U/13 Girls team playing in their first Welsh Finals, overcame opposition from Whitland and Llanwrda
in the 3 team play off at the Welsh Finals day at Newport Cricket Club, to become U13 Lady Taverner's Welsh Champions
for the first time.
The Whitland game promised to be a tough encounter against a strong team who had been Welsh Girls winners on
several occasions. However, the Newport Girls comfortably reached their target winning by 8 wickets.
With Whitland beating Llanwrda, Newport needed to win the final game against Llanwrda to become Welsh
Champions and they didn’t disappoint. Batting first the Newport Girls set a formidable target which was too
much for Llanwrda, leaving Newport Girls as comfortable 88 run winners and new Welsh Champions.

2012
Newport U13 Girls’ Cricket Club emulated their U11 counterparts by winning the U13 Lady Taverner’s Welsh Cup at
Newport Fugitives ground.
Five teams had progressed through to the Welsh Final’s Day with Cardiff, Lisvane, Whitland and Neath joining Newport.
The tournament was based on a round-robin event, with each game being played with 12 overs per side.
Newport played local rivals Cardiff in their first game, the Newport girls easily passed the Cardiff total for the loss of
just 1 wicket. In the second game Newport played Whitland (Pembroke). The Newport Girls were too strong for a plucky
Whitland team,winning by 42 runs. Newport’s third game was against unbeaten Lisvane. Lisvane could only manage a
total of 43-5 off their allotted 12 overs and Newport in reply immediately took command passing the Lisvane score for
the loss of just 2 wickets. Newport’s final game was against Neath, a win meaning Newport would be Welsh Champions.
Newport produced their best performance of the day, with both bat and ball winning by 45 runs
The win meant the Newport girls had retained the U13 Lady Taverner’s Welsh Cup, having previously won the Cup
the previous season.

Izzy Berry - Match Mascot For England v Australia 2nd ODI
Izzy Berry, one of Newport Cricket Club's outstanding young girl cricketers was chosen
as Match Mascot for the England v Australia 2nd ODI Match at Cardiff.
The SWALEC Cricket Stadium was the venue for the 2nd ODI Match of the 5 match Nat West Series,
between England and Australia and Izzy was chosen as the Match Mascot. The match was recorded
live on Sky Sports and Izzy was present at the toss, with England Captain Andrew Straus and Australian
Captain, Ricky Ponting.
